Back from Japan

Wow. What an awesome, life-changing trip! I can't even begin to express how awesome a trip it was. I miss the place already, but it's good to be back.  All I have are my photos, and little commentaries contained within:

It's a beautiful country, the peak of modern living, and full of some of the kindest, least cynical, hard-working people I've ever met. It was a breath of fresh air. There was so much visual stimulus, I ended up drawing again. I'll scan in my sketch book soon, it's actually pretty small. But it's the most I've drawn in a while, and it felt great! Comics are deeply ingrained in their culture, and they're everywhere. I urge every cartoonist to visit Japan at least once in their lives, just to see what it's like.

Countless thanks to Ray Goto and Savannah College of Art and Design for inviting my husband to go there to teach, and for allowing me to tag along. It was the best trip ever!

It was so awesome, we still miss it. Since coming back, all we've been eating is sushi and UCC iced coffee. We're such whimps!

Are you gonna scan your sketchbook? It looked awesome with all the stuff stamped and pasted over and under your cool drawings. :D

Aw, man, those photos were GREAT. I'm definitely going to consult you when I'm ready to go to Japan--it seems like you guys found some great off-the-beaten-path places to explore and enjoy!

Japan is surprisingly easy to figure out. There's English everywhere, people are super nice, and hotels abound. Don't be intimidated! Our hotel in Kyoto, for example. We had no plan whatsoever for the second week of the trip, and just kind of stumbled into things. Everything worked out amazingly well!

It's true what you said. Even now I still have a lot of the images of Japan in my mind! Especially the small alleyways. Oh man, I want to go back and explore. =D

It's funny how Japan does that to you!

I know, there's so many places I wanted to see. That place is like a treasure trove of fascinating places, people and landscapes. (but I'm very envious of your trip to Kyoto, my dream to go there and see the temples! And now I want to see the Osamu Tezuka museum after looking at all your photos.)

Woooowww!! It is great to go through the pictures - it's a little as if I am an invisible eye floating next to you to take a glimpse of some moments! XD It looks like you had a lot of fun! Today I actually thought of you because a funny thing happened in a library in Geneva: I was going through their comics/manga section and suddenly I see a drawing on a cover and go.. "wait.. I know this.. Amy did it..!!!! O_O ) - I pull the thing out and SHOCK - on the cover there are pieces of Reman's pages!! Amazing!! It's a french version of a book on webcomics - I wanted to get it, but it was a bit pricey. But seeing your art like this was somewhat magical.. :)

Ahhhh! I can't believe I almost missed this post and your return! The photos you brought back are wonderful! I'm so glad you and the crew had an awesome time, thanks so much for sharing this little taste of your adventure in Japan.
