Italian edition of S&S

Thanks to the kind and generous folks at Renoir Comics, especially to Michele, my Sorcerers & Secretaries dream has come true.  For the Italian edition, it's being published with both books in one volume with a cover illustration that I felt embraced the atmosphere of the books better than any other.  I seriously feel like I haven't seen the final product of the last two years of my working life until now.  I just hope it can get published like this in English someday!

The book debuts at the Lucca Comics Fair in Tuscany, Italy, November 1st, then released November 10th.

I never thought I'd have anything published in another language, let alone Italian.  It's pretty neat!  Can't thank Renoir Comics enough~ They're a fairly young company, but they seriously care about their books and their authors!  I wish them a long and happy life.  A huge thanks has to go to Kazu, too.  I believe it's because the Renoir guys read our wishes for a one volume edition on his blog that they went ahead to do the book this way, and it was Kazu's great editorial eye that helped me make the cover look as good as it does.  I love you, sweetie!  :D

I'm planning a site redesign soon.  With all my writing work going on, I feel that this current site doesn't quite make the cut.

That is totally sweet. I was sure to check for S&S at the bookstores we went to this weekend. Only B&N had it. :P But they did!

To Big Bear with Phil Collins...as long as he doesn't sing SuSuSudio all weekend, I'm good.
Leo Ortolani is my Italian comic book artist hero. He's got incredible comedic timing in his storytelling.

Very nice! I almost wish that it were originally published as one here. I really do prefer one volume instead of several. I remember that picture from way back! =)

Wow! That looks gorgeous! How exciting! I'm surprised that you were able to go through another publisher to achieve this -- does this mean TPOP doesn't have the right to publish S&S in another country? Anyway, good for you! ^_^

They have the right to, but it's like... they can say yes or no to a publisher. Since they have no branch in Italy, I think they're cool with it (obviously). But like in Germany, for example, of course they're going to go with their own branch. At least, that's how I think it goes!

It looks like the covers have french flaps--is that right? That's so great; I don't normally see that in comics aside from First Second books.

So cool!

Yep I just learned that term a year ago, I think...

Amy, I have another question: Are you going to continue using your maiden name for your published work, like this book? And if so, do you prefer to use Kibuishi in other contexts? I was just wondering because I think I've seen you use both names recently (but I could be imagining it).

I'm going to do a complete switch over to Kibuishi. I want people to know we're married! XD Plus, I'm not all that attached to my family name, anyway. For this book, it's just a hold-over from the past. :P When Reman's published, it'll be under Amy Kim Kibuishi.

I have to agree that the cover for this really does a great job at capturing the eye and making the viewer want to do a quick flip through to see what its about and if they want to give it a chance.

Congrats on the Italian publication!

That's such a better cover. It's like an entirey different book by the same creator. The colors are much more suited to the type of story you're telling. Awesome!

Thanks, Rikki! It's amazing the difference a good cover can make. Something Kazu taught me. I think when I was doing volume 1 and 2, I wasn't entirely certain about the atmosphere of the book. It's much easier in retrospect! :P

p.s. I really love your new site design!!!
